 A word from the chef

Although it doesn't feel much like spring at the moment, at the end of February with the next menu change I'll be beginning to lighten up the dishes, but in the meantime don't worry; there will still be our warming Kentish Onion Soup and very popular home smoked  haddock and fish pie on the menu.

Our vegetarian dishes have been in great demand throughout January, so if you're vegetarian and haven't visited us yet this year then you might like to try our Roast butternut squash dish with lightly spiced potato cake, celeriac, pear and chesnuts, or perhaps our parsnip and apple cannelloni with crispy truffled topping.

We've really made the most of the game season here and it has been great to see so many of you enjoying our woodpigeon, partridge and goose dishes.  Venison will be making an appearance on our menu in March, along with Hoggett.

Hoggett is the name given to lambs when they are a year old, and contrary to popular belief, older lamb generally develops superior flavours with a darker coloured meat, and fat marbling which adds to its richness and flavour.

We went back to school this winter with Jam Roly Poly, custard and ice cream which many of you loved, but don't worry, we will be introducing a steamed treacle sponge instead, along with some lighter options such as Sour cream pannacotta with rhubarb and orange.

Any comments and feedback on any aspect of the menu are appreciated as usual.

Joby

Food and wine tasting evening ~ March 10th

We are pleased to announce our next Food and Wine Tasting evening on Wednesday 10th March (apologies to anyone who was told it might be later on in the month, but we just had to make the most of our special guest's visit!).

We will be heading back to explore some great wines from Italy, kicking off with Nino Franco Prosecco which will be introduced by the Franco family, producers of our very popular Prosecco's.

The Nino Franco winery is located in Valdobbiadene, a zone in the upper reaches of the Veneto known for producing Italy's finest Prosecco. Third generation and current owner/winemaker Primo Franco is a consummate craftsman, and produces a line of Prosecco that is second to none. The range varies in style but each one has the characteristically fruity back bone one expects from a good Prosecco. The best selling "Rustico" continues to be the bench mark of the category, as enjoyed regularly by many of our customers.

Following the Prosecco we will be tasting some other fantastic Italian wines specially selected to compliment this menu:

Menu

Seared Tuna loin with pickled radishes,
tuna mayonnaise, chervil and dill
~
Rustic broth and tortellini of local wild rabbit
~
Denham Estate venison Wellington
with green peppercorn sauce and celeriac

~
Sour cream pannacotta with rhubarb and orange

Vegetarian alternatives available on request!

Price: £59 per person to include 4 courses and 6 glasses of wine.  A deposit of £30 will be required in order to secure your booking.

Very special offer!

To launch our new opening times on Sunday evenings, we will be holding a "bring your own" special offer with just £5 on corkage on Sunday nights and Monday nights throughout February (excluding 14th!).

So if you are counting the pennies, or have a very special bottle of wine at home that deserves some special food to go with it, then why not bring a bottle with you?!

This offer will only be available to diners who book in advance and only valid for standard sized wine bottles (no wine boxes or spirits please)!

This offer is entirely at the discretion of the management and can be withdrawn at any time.
