The first day of our 2010 Turf Flat season triggered an abundance of British-bred successes, across the spectrum.
These were initiated by the Cheveley Park owned and bred Penitent (Kyllachy) in the William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster – and followed swiftly by the Minster Stud bred Al Shemali (Medicean) in the Gr.1 Dubai Duty Free Turf.
Lord Lloyd–Webber’s Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) homebred at Watership Down Stud, completed a memorable day for British breds in the Gr.1 Dubai Sheema Classic.
To add more spice to the pot, British-breds triumphed in the two principal races on Newbury’s prestigious National Hunt card. Double Hit (Sir Harry Lewis) taking the EBF/TBA Mares Novice Chase Final, and Ryde Back the EBF National Hunt Novice Hurdle Final, both races carrying Listed status.
Two days later, ecstatic connections made history when greeting Primo Lady , who won the first ever £10,000 Racing Post Yearling Bonus at Lingfield Park. British-bred, at Little Lodge Farm, she is by Lucky Story, who stands at Tweenhills Stud, owned by Racing Post Yearling Bonus Committee member, David Redvers. For the record, she was bought by trainer Gay Kellaway for only £5,000 at the DBS St.Leger Festival Sale.
Earlier in the month BBM’s Anna Powell made a rewarding trip to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai (read international report) - while, back at base, BBM hosted two separate delegations from the Korean Racing Authority.
Five members of the Mongolian Jockey Club, plus film crew, will be in Newmarket for four days next week (12-15 April) – and a delegation from Iran are scheduled to arrive shortly afterwards.
The Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale takes place in Newmarket (13-15 April) and the DBS Breeze-up Sale is scheduled for 20-21 April.
Brightwells hold their National Hunt Cheltenham April Sale on 14 April.
On the racing front, we have three action-packed days of Aintree’s Grand National Meeting this week – while we can also look forward to Newmarket’s first meeting of the year, the Craven.
