With 2009 safely behind us, WH Marks Sattin Ireland is happy to announce the launch of our quarterly newsletter.
Through this newsletter we will seek to keep our clients informed on market conditions , salary trends, as well as top jobs we are hiring, for along with a sample of the best senior finance staff currently on the lookout.
The finance and accountancy market in Ireland has a very specialist focus and to that end our team of experienced and dedicated recruitment consultants are committed to servicing the local areas of Dublin and Cork. We pride ourselves on offering a boutique service and developing long-term working partnerships with our clients. Our team has over 40 years of combined recruitment experience and is headed by Dan McKeown and supported by senior consultants Matthew Fitzpatrick, Julienne Fox and Niall Gallagher.

Salaries in the last quarter of 2009 continued to drop but at a decreased rate to that seen in previous quarters. Almost all areas of the Private Sector saw downward salary pressure but we believe this has now bottomed out.
Some notable exceptions include Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices, Energy (including renewable) and some areas of Financial Services such as Insurance and Reinsurance. As per our recently completed finance and tax salary survey most mid-tier and senior finance positions took the biggest hit in terms of their bonuses on top of an already reduced basic salary.

2009 has been one of the most difficult trading years in recent memory and has seen an unprecedented tightening of budgetary controls across every industry. There has been a genuine shift in attitude towards cost awareness and profitability derived from savings rather than revenue generation through increased sales and margins. This has led to further deterioration in the live register figures with almost 200,000 qualified professionals unemployed.
However, as we enter the first quarter of 2010, we feel a certain air of optimism has returned , mainly due to an increase in global economic output and activity coupled with a rise in global financial markets.
